As we transition into fall, our days get shorter and the weather gets cooler. With this change, there are a few ways that you can support your body in order to maintain healthy immunity and overall well-being. Seasonal changes can leave us feeling unbalanced and it’s a good time to practice some extra self-care.
Just as nature is preparing for a winter of rest, you may find that you’re also craving a night-in instead of a night-out. Focus your energy on your home, make it feel cozy, decorate with some gourds, pull out your blankets for cuddling up on your couch, use accent lights and natural candles to create a dim glow and feeling of warmth. Spend some time reading, journaling, meditating, or playing board games with your family.
Nourish with Seasonal Foods
A change in seasons affects more than just our climate, it also changes which fresh foods are naturally available for us. You’re going to find more dense root vegetables, winter squash, apples, and dark leafy greens at this time of year. While you may crave light salads and cold drinks in summer, in fall we’re naturally inclined to nutrient dense, warm and cooked foods. Focus on getting in adequate protein, and high quality fats at this time of year. It may be time to switch your morning smoothie for a warm turmeric elixir, or a bowl of oats. You can also include warming teas and spices such as ginger, cinnamon, cardamom, and turmeric.
Consistency is key in developing healthy habits. Our bodies are more in sync with nature than we think. As the sun begins to set earlier in the night, you may find that you’re feeling ready for bed earlier than on those warm summer nights, it’s ok to get some extra rest during this transition. Take some time to create a morning & evening routine that’s tailored for fall/winter.
Love Your Skin
If your skin is feeling like it needs some extra nourishment, ground yourself with a daily self-massage. Use Enerex Black Seed Oil or sesame oil which are naturally warming. You will love the natural glow that Black Seed Oil provides. Start with the soles of your feet and work your way up in long strokes. Daily massage helps keep your lymphatic system moving. Find a self-care ritual for fall that promotes wellness, and practice it daily.
Embrace the seasonal change. Summer will return, soon enough!
