DIY PIGMENT-LIGHTENING FACIAL MASK

We have all been reading about homemade protective face masks in recent weeks. But this face mask offers a different type of protection, offering moisture to protect skin from drying winds and indoor heating. It is also especially good for those who have hyper-pigmentation, sun spots or uneven skin tone.

Try making this one at home after your weekly trip to a grocer and health store.

Step 1: Blend together

  • 1 tablespoon of raw honey,
  • ½ cup of mashed papaya,
  • 1 egg yolk,
  • 1/2 teaspoon black seed oil (or other virgin omega 3-6 oil)

2. Gently apply the mixture over your face for 20 minutes, avoiding eyes.
3. Wash it off with lukewarm water.

The enzyme papain in papaya, along with its alpha-hydroxy acids, acts as an exfoliator to dissolve dead skin cells, which can make your skin colour lighter and feel softer. To ensure that skin remains supple, black seed oil, honey and egg yolk all have moisturizing effects. Black seed oil is ultra-nourishing with antioxidants, selenium, carotene, calcium and omega-6. Honey is a humectant (it draws moisture to your skin), and offers enzymes and vitamin B. Egg yolk has folate, selenium, phosphorous and omega-3, and helps bind the ingredients together.
